Buddhist Calendar for iPhone and First Buddha Calendar for Mac

These apps collect no data about you. They have no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. The calendar is worked out on the device itself, and whatever you do in it stays there — apart from the monastery schedules you choose to download, described below.

iPhone

The iPhone app goes online only if you choose to follow a monastery’s calendar. It then downloads that monastery’s public schedule from firstbuddha.space — never from the monastery itself — when you open the app, at most a few times a day. The request carries no account, no identifier and nothing about how you use the calendar; it only names the schedule to download. Without a chosen monastery, the app makes no network connections at all.

Monastery calendars

Monasteries publish their schedules themselves; they are public information. firstbuddha.space collects them on its own server, adds translations of event names and serves each schedule as one file, the same for everyone. The site does not record who downloads them and keeps no request logs of its own; like any website, its host (Vercel) sees your IP address in order to send the reply and handles it under its own privacy policy. Reminders for monastery events are scheduled by the app on your phone, just like reminders for practice days. The list of monasteries you follow is kept on your device only.

Mac

The Mac app reaches for one place only: at startup, and once a day after that, it asks firstbuddha.space whether a new version is out. The request carries nothing about you or about how you use the calendar. Like any request on the internet, it shows your IP address to the server that answers it.

What stays on the device

Your chosen language, your settings, the monasteries you follow and any flags you put on awkward translations are kept on your device only. The flags are never sent anywhere: you can copy them and pass them on yourself if you want to.

Applications from monasteries

If you apply on this site to add a monastery or centre, we keep what you enter in the form — including the contact person’s name and email address — to review the application and to contact you about it. Only the site’s editor sees it. The contact details of declined applications are deleted 90 days after the decision, and those of approved ones a year after the monastery leaves the list; you can withdraw an application and delete your details at any time on the private status page you receive after applying. We do not store your IP address and use no tracking on the form.
